Congenital Heart Defects - Tricuspid Atresia |

What’s wrong?
- Defect present at birth
- Absence of tricuspid valve
- RV usually hypoplastic and biventricular repair is not possible
- Other defects may also be present (ASD,VSD,PS,TGA)
Corrective Procedures?
- 1st stage
- a few days after birth when PDA closes and if oxygen saturation (ie amount of oxygen in body is inadequate)
- a BT shunt usually needed to be inserted to increase blood flow to the lungs and improve the cyanosis.
- 2nd stage - usually less than 2 years old
- Bidirectional Cavo Pulmonary Connection (BCPC/Glen Procedure)
- 3rd stage - usually performed before 3-4 years old
- Fontan operation - completion of Total CavoPulmonary connection (TCPC)
