What’s wrong?
- Occurs if the ductus arteriosus does not close after birth
- Abnormal circulation of blood between two of the major arteries near to the heart
- Blood flows directly from the aorta into the PA, which can put strain on the heart and increase the pressure in the lung arteries (pulmonary hypertension)
- In New Born ( Neonates), due to presence of large PDA, baby may not be able to wean off from Ventilator if the baby with large PDA is ventilated

What are the possible complications after the procedures?

In very rare circumstances, the Device that is deployed can get dislodged.
- Surgical Closure
- Residual PDA –Due to recanalization, incomplete closure, re-opening of PDA
- Voice/Weak Cry – due to Left Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve injury – usually temporary and recover completely
- Chylothorax – collection of Chyle ( fatty fluid ) in the chest – which may require drainage if it is significant amount
