Congenital Heart Defects - Double Inlet Left Ventricle, Ventricular Inversion |
with Rudimentary Right Ventricle, Transposition of Great Arteries, Ventricular Septal Defect, Atrial Septal Defect |
What’s wrong?
- A large single ventricle which both atria empty their blood into
- Valve may be present at the end of each atrium or just one between the two
- VSD usually present
- PA and aorta may start from RV and LV or they may both start from the larger ventricles
Corrective Procedures?
- Fontan Pathway
- Modified BT Shunt (done in early infancy)
- Glenn Procedure (connect SVC to PA, after BT shunt is disconnected)
- Fontan Procedure (take blood through the IVC directly to PA with SVC blood)
What are the possible complications after the procedures?
Possible complication of Fontan circuit:
- Prolong pleural effusion
- Ascites
- Protein losing enteropathy
- Atrial arrhythmia
- Failure of Fontan circulation
